When wiring batteries into your system you will have to decide whether you will wire them in series or parallel.
But what is the difference between series and parallel and what do they mean?
Series
Batteries wired in series describe when a battery is wired from its positive terminal to another batteries negative terminal.
This allows for the voltage to double and the capacity rating to stay the same.
Parallel
Batteries wired in parallel describe when a battery is wired from its positive terminal to another batteries positive terminal and from its negative terminal to another batteries negative terminal.
This allows for the voltage to stay the same and the capacity rating to double.
In most 12 Volt systems parallel wiring will be used over series wiring due to the need to keep the system at 12 Volts although 2 Volt and 6 Volt batteries are sometimes used with series wiring.
Some customer use their batteries for 24 Volt systems which require series wiring to double the 12 Volt batteries to 24 Volts.
